It’s May 2020, and we are now two months into “different times.”. By now, some of those who have been quarantined in their house this whole time might be questioning if their home is the right fit for them. They have been forced to use their space in new ways, like a classroom to homeschool kids or a makeshift office for multiple people. It might have become clear that they need a different space or that their home is just not quite right. Then there are those who have decided that they just want a change and may be seeking something new and exciting. Who wouldn’t be, right? If this sounds anything like you, keep reading. We may be somewhat biased, but we believe that East Fort Lauderdale living is the best way to live in South Florida, and here’s why.
The beautiful thing about most of Florida is the year-round “outdoor” weather. With the exception of a few consecutive rainy days in the spring and (brief) daily showers in the summer, our outdoor lifestyle is highly coveted. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Area is known to many as the “Venice of the Americas,” featuring over 300 miles of inland waterways. Guess what this means? Endless opportunities for outdoor activities. On any given day, you’ll see hundreds of boats frequent these waterways, whether they’re headed to the sandbar, bar hopping, or out to the ocean to moor up or fish. You’ll also find kayakers and paddleboarders and never one without a smile on their face! On land, you’ll find Las Olas and A1A hustling and bustling with pedestrians and bikers, which creates a beautiful backdrop for many of Fort Lauderdale’s street festivals and events. You’ll also find families and individuals alike picnicking or hanging out and enjoying the outdoors at one of over 20 parks. There are even options for your furry friends, who also get over 20 dog parks, both inland and on the beach.
With the addition of the Brightline as well as the electric scooters and bike-sharing programs, East Fort Lauderdale is experiencing new opportunities to get around town. Not to mention, we have our very own Water Taxi that takes you up and down the New River to bars and restaurants in one of the most scenic ways possible The ability to walk to most places if you live in most of our eastern enclaves is incredible between parks, beaches, and the downtown area. Parking opportunities, unlike Miami, are plentiful, and as a local, you’ll know the back streets to get around and where to park to get to where you want to go.
Fort Lauderdale is bigger than just Fort Lauderdale alone; with over a dozen unique neighborhoods, there’s something for everyone here. Ask anyone from Victoria Park what they love most about living there, and they’ll tell you the canopied trees, neighborhood-y feel, and the ability to feel safe walking and playing outside. This tucked-away area just east of US-1, between Sunrise and Broward Boulevard, features the traditional 1930s South Florida homes, Holiday Park, and of course being waterfront. Located in this neighborhood are some of Fort Lauderdale’s most frequented restaurants and cafes such as The Foxy Brown, Shuck N’ Dive, Poke House, and Sip Java. Neighbors to Victoria Park are Poinsettia Heights, Colee Hammock , and Flagler Village. Take a quick drive west of Andrews and you’ll find the Sailboat Bend and Tarpon River neighborhoods. Sailboat Bend is known for its bungalows and Mission-style homes dating back to the early 1900s and hugs the South Fork of the New River. Neighbors to these areas are Citrus Isles, Shady Banks, and Riverland all three of which are more affordable options for the waterfront, ocean-access living. Rio Vista, Harbor Beach, and Las Olas Isles are the most affluent neighborhoods in East Fort Lauderdale. Rio Vista, just East of US-1 and south of Las Olas Boulevard and the New River, is one of Fort Lauderdale’s oldest communities and features tree-lined streets and unique architecture. It is home to over 12 point lot properties and features some of the most gorgeous homes in Fort Lauderdale. Located right off Las Olas, between the shopping district and the beach is Las Olas Isles. These homes sit on canals that flow right into the sandbar and are just a quick ride away from the Port Everglades inlet. Options abound here as you’ll find a mix of old and new, featuring modern, contemporary, and Mediterranean style homes. Last but not least, Harbor Beach is an exclusive gated community, just north of 17th St. and on both sides of A1A. These private homes boast some of the most beautiful waterfront properties in Fort Lauderdale. Sound like a dream?
